The North Dakota IAWP Fall Conference was a resounding success, thanks to the exceptional leadership of Chapter President Shenille Lillejord and Executive Secretary Cindy Lynk. Their efforts made the event a memorable experience, filled with valuable insights and opportunities for professional growth.
Attendees were able to connect and learn from one another through engaging presentations and fun team-building activities. This year’s theme, “Supporting the Workforce Pipeline,” focused on two timely topics: recruitment strategies and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in workforce development.
A Focus on Recruitment and AI
Recruitment Strategies
One of the core themes of the conference was tackling recruitment challenges in today’s rapidly evolving workforce landscape. Participants gained insights into creative recruitment methods, particularly through employee referral programs and providing second-chance opportunities for candidates. A panel of workforce professionals offered sector-specific insights, particularly in industries such as transportation (CDL drivers), healthcare, and IT.
Interestingly, within the IT sector, organizations shared different approaches to recruitment—some prioritized remote work opportunities, while others emphasized in-person engagement. These discussions highlighted the importance of aligning recruitment strategies with organizational values and adapting to industry-specific needs.
The Role of AI
AI was a major focus, with presentations that delved into its growing influence on workforce development. Attendees learned about the practical applications of AI in recruitment, skills matching, and training, while also being made aware of emerging risks like AI-driven fraud and deep fakes. Staying informed on how AI is reshaping the workforce was a key takeaway, as workforce professionals continue to navigate these advancements.
