The IAWP Illinois Chapter leadership team recently volunteered at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. The group took part in an activity known as a repack – taking food from large pallets and repacking it into distributable size boxes. These boxes will make their way to families and individuals in need. This event allowed the chapter leadership to do some team building while helping those in local communities who are experiencing food insecurity.
According to the the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Illinois IAWP chapter leaders helped prepare:
- 1,074 shelf stable boxes
- 4,656 pounds of rice
- 4,088 pounds of bread
- 12,560 pounds lemons
- 38,488 total pounds of food
- 32,073 meals (422 meals per volunteer!)
The food, benefits hundreds of food assistance programs across Chicago and surrounding areas.
Chapter leaders also thanked everyone for their membership and reminds members to update their membership information by emailing teamilchapte.iawp@gmail.com
