Thelma Marie Hill, former president of the International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) passed away on November 26, 2017.  Thelma was born in Kinston, North Carolina in 1953.

Thelma lived a life of service in dedication to the people of her home state of North Carolina. After graduating from law school, Thelma began working at the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Division of Employment Security (then known as the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina) While at the Division of Employment Security, Thelma contributed her legal knowledge, expertise, and exceptional writing skills to much of the Employment Security Law of North Carolina.

During her service as president of IAWP between 2005- 2006, Thelma provided her legal expertise during organizational changes; wrote the governance documents and assisted with legal requirements for the organization’s name change from IAPES to IAWP for both the chapter and the international organization.

Thelma is remembered as a true mentor, that always aimed to be fair and was always someone you could count. Thelma will truly be missed, and many are saddened by our loss both around the United States and by our International colleagues from around the world that has had an opportunity to meet and work with her.
