Floyd Walton Roper III (Wally) is a native of Binghamton New York where he was educated in the Binghamton Public Schools. He holds an Associate’s Degree from Broome Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the State University of New York at Oswego. He has worked in the Insurance Industry and as a broadcaster for local radio stations WNBF and WINR. In 1994 he made the career transition to work as an Employment Counselor for Broome County Social Services, and then moved to the New York State Department of Labor where he served as a Labor Services Representative in the local Division of Employment Services. In 2004 he was promoted to Supervisor/Specialist in Operations Support at the Glendale Telephone Claims Center where he serves as an employer liaison and as the Facility Emergency Coordinator. He has also put his radio experience to work as the “Voice of New York” recording the prompts for the IVR system for UI as well as for several other divisions within the Department of Labor.
Wally also is a Life Member of the Endwell Fire Department and served as Fire Police Captain for several years. He has also served as a member of several community service organizations. He has been a member of IAWP since joining NYSDOL in 1999, and has served as President, Vice President, and Awards Chair.
Wally is married to Mary Jury Roper who was his Program Director at WINR where they met. Mary and Wally co-emcee the Vestal Community Chorus concerts twice a year and have done that for over 20 years. They are also shareholders of the Green Bay Packers, Wally having been a fan since 1966 and Mary having grown up in Antigo, Wisconsin.
